Priesthood

A life of service

A priest is called to give his life to serve others.  If you have a genuine calling to the priesthood it is likely that you will already be engaged in some form of practical service either within your own parish or in the wider community.  You may be an altar server, or someone who visits the sick and housebound with Holy Communion.  You may belong to your local SVP group and give up some of your time to help those in need.  You may visit hospital patients or prisoners as part of a chaplaincy team, or provide a listening ear to those who have been bereaved or are distressed.  All these, and many more besides, are ways in which the compassion of Christ is made present in and through the Church.

Throughout your time at seminary you will be provided with a range of pastoral experiences which will not only familiarise you with the diverse aspects of priestly ministry, but also help you to reflect on what it means to share in the role of Christ the good shepherd.
