Seminary formation includes the study of philosophy, theology and related subjects to university degree level. It is important for priests to have a sound and thorough knowledge of the content of the faith so that they can explain it to others, both within and beyond the Church. Although you do not need to be an intellectual genius to be accepted for the seminary, you should aware of and prepared for the level of study that you will encounter there. The fact that you don’t have A level or equivalent qualifications should not necessarily deter you from approaching the diocese. The Vocations Director can advise you on how you might be able to do some preparatory studies during your time of discernment, and you will be given every assistance to reach your full potential in this area, as in others.
