Resources and Events
The following resources have been highlighted by Diocesan Marriage and Family Life Coordinators as useful means of supporting the three year programme.
The Ministry of Welcome is a four or five session training resource for parishes. It aims to enable all parish groups to understand why welcoming visitors and strangers matters, that all parishioners need an ongoing welcome and to prompt parishes to improve their own welcome policies. It’s especially useful as a starting point - the first step for parishes on the way to becoming more welcoming, friendly and family-sensitive.
Everybody's Welcome? Helping Your Parish to Become More Friendly for Families of All Kinds is a simple package to help parishes explore new ways to be more family friendly. Being family friendly isn't just about providing a programme for the children. It's also about meeting the needs of an elderly spinster caring for a relative at home. It's about filling a gap in your local community. It's about making sure everyone is safe, secure and comfortable in your church. It's about listening to what everyone has to say. It's about sharing a fresh vision for your church.
Whether you're a cathedral or a tiny chapel, in the inner city or the depths of the countryside, you can adapt this material to your needs.
It's especially useful for parishes who are already satisfied with their ministry of welcome and want to look deeper into the issues of becoming more family sensitive.
