Family Life

Everybody’s Welcome 2006

The first stage of the programme asks us all to think about our parish communities; to celebrate them as places where individuals and families share in the life of the local Church, to worship God, support one another and also to reach out to the wider community.

But it also asks us to look at ways in which we might make our parishes even more welcoming and inclusive places, where everyone, whatever their family background or circumstances can feel themselves welcomed, valued and supported.

That’s why it called “Everybody’s Welcome 2006”, and it began on Sunday 8th January 2006 – the feast of the Baptism of the Lord.

The first stage was embraced succesfully by parishes throughout the diocese with many introducing new initiatives to support the themes and goals of the stage: Everybody’s welcome.

Many people shared thoughts and good practice on our forum and the initiative was publicised regularily to invite us all to share in this work.
