Deanery Vocation Promotion Groups
Deanery Vocations Promotion Groups play an integral part in promoting vocations within the Archdiocese of Birmingham. Our diocese is made up of 19 deaneries. At the moment there are 5 vocations promotion groups. These are in North Staffs, Walsall, Rugby, Warwick and Coventry. Some groups have existed for many years and some are new groups. It is a major part of the Archdiocese’ plans to promote vocations to set up a group in each deanery. Groups usually have around 15 volunteers from parishes around their deanery. It’s members represent a broad section of vocations with priests, deacons, religious sisters and lay members all playing an important part.
The groups have two main functions:
• To raise awareness of general vocation within the deanery thereby creating a culture of vocation within the community,
• And secondly, to raise awareness of specific vocation within the deanery.
They do this in close liaison with the diocesan vocations director and promoter, by
• supporting the Parish Priest, being a source of accurate information and sign-posting people in the right direction.
• Organising vocations events and to actively seek new opportunities to raise vocation awareness within the deanery
• participating in, and helping deliver, existing vocations dept. led initiatives, within the Deanery
• Preparing material and presentations for primary and secondary school promotions, to respond to requests for school promotions and to actively seek out new appointments as appropriate within the Deanery.
The groups are vital to success and many thanks goes out to the many volunteers across the diocese.
