Enriching and enlightening the next generation!

 

As part of the Diocesan plan for promoting vocations and developing a “culture of vocation” within the secondary schools, the diocesan vocations centre in cooperation with local deanery vocations promotion groups offer each school the chance to participate in an exciting initiative.

 

This initiative takes the form of a ‘Secondary School Vocations Day’

 

The aims of this initiative are to:

 

1.    Raise awareness of all aspects of vocation

2.    Give secondary school students the opportunity to meet and interact with a cross section of people who have dedicated their lives to some form of religious ministry.

 

This is done through a series of interactive/ activity based sessions between students and religious.

 

Format of the day:

 

•    The day would take place at the school.

•    What would be included in the day would depend on   the schools particular daily timetable and how many rooms would be available for use.

•    School would provide a date for the vocations day.

•    The day would include one particular year group that would benefit from such an initiative, chosen by the school. (Year 10 is usually the most appropriate)

•    The year group would be split into smaller, more manageable groups, in accordance with the timetable of activities for the day.

 

 

Each area would include discussions and activities based around it’s theme in relation to vocations. Most importantly, the students will also get an insight into the particular ministries represented throughout the day and have opportunities to interact with the various religious on many levels.    

 

Throughout the summer months of 2006 the vocations centre in cooperation with local deanery vocations promotion groups have provided Vocation Days to a quarter of the diocesan secondary schools.
