By virtue of our baptism, each and every one of us has a responsibility in promoting and fostering a culture of vocation within our parish, family and school environments. However, it may not always be clear how this can be done in our respective roles.
Our Vocation Promotion Outreach Fieldworkers can provide guidance and offer support to foster an environment at your school which has vocation at its heart. They are:
Rev. Owen Gresty BA(Hons) PGCE DipDS
Mrs. Tharushi Perera BSc(Hons) MSc
We are also able to offer support to you and your staff with any vocation initiatives, including vocation days or weeks, and the diocesan Days of Prayer and Adoration for Vocations.
We have the contacts to help find priests, deacons, seminarians and religious who are willing to come and speak with students in schools.
Primary Schools
We offer diocesan schools a workshop for Year 6 children, tailored to their RE curriculum focus on Confirmation.
The workshop explorers key questions: Does everyone have a vocation? What's the difference between a vocation and a job? What is a priest? Am I being called? How do I discern my calling?
The workshop covers the universal call to holiness for all God's children, different states in life (marriage, single life, religious life, Holy Orders) and individual call to work.
The workshop includes a visual presentation, fun, reflective activities and dressing in priestly vestments.
Secondary Schools
We would be happy to lead workshops, to speak with groups of students and particularly to be involved in careers events, when young people are thinking about and discerning their futures.
