CHARIS Archdiocese of Birmingham
The CHARIS National Service of Communion(CNSC) is the principal co-ordinating organisation of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) in England & Wales.

The CNSC maintains relationships with the various expressions of CCR in England & Wales, keeping in close contact with the Catholic Bishops' Conference, primarily through the Episcopal Advisor, Bishop David Oakley. The mission of Charis was given by Pope Francis when it was founded in 2019.

CHARIS aims to serve and create communion between all the realities existing in Catholic Charismatic Renewal for the good of the entire Church and the proclamation of the Gospel in the world. The work of CHARIS is centred on the following shared objectives given to CHARIS by Pope Francis:
-
To deepen and promote the grace of baptism in the Holy Spirit and the exercise of charisms throughout the whole Church.
-
To promote the ecumenical dimension of Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) and foster the commitment to serving the unity of all Christians.
-
To promote service to the poor and social action.

CHARIS in the Archdiocese of Birmingham
CDSCs, or Charismatic Diocesan Services of Communion, are Diocesan Teams that serve the vision of CHARIS in each diocese in the three areas outlined above.

Our CHARIS is led by Mark Gannon, and which is aiming to grow its offering with the support of a team from across the area and from expressions of the Charismatic Renewal within the Archdiocese.

The CDSC would like to hear from all groups and initiatives in the Birmingham Archdiocese for the purpose of mutual support in mission. Click below for more...
“I am particularly grateful that my request to you, two years ago, to give the worldwide Charismatic Renewal a single international service based here, has begun to take concrete shape in the acts of incorporation of this new single service. It is the first step, and others will follow, but soon the unity, the work of the Holy Spirit, will be a reality. “I make all things new””, says the Lord (Rev 21:5).”
- Pope Francis, Vigil of Pentecost Golden Jubilee of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, 3 June 2017
The Birmingham CDSC has run a diocesan online Life in the Spirit (LITS) course and can offer advice on courses and approches to running LITS. The CHARIS website also has a large repository of courses of formation and sacramental preparation and enrichment to suit almost any need, including a video version of LITS called 'The Gift'.
How can I participate?
