Our Seminarians

 “The harvest is rich but the labourers are few,

Meet the seminarians of the Archdiocese of Birmingham. Some of our seminarians are studying at St. Mary's College, Oscott and others at the Venerable English College (VEC) in Rome; men spend their propaedeutic year at the Royal English College in Valladolid, Spain. Here, our seminarians speak about how they are discerning their calling and about their experience on seminary formation.

Thomas Wintle 

Coming soon... Thomas, a first year seminarian at Oscott College, speaks about:

  • The special relationship he has with Jesus,

  • What he found surprising after entering the seminary, 

  • How he spends his free time whilst at the seminary.

Luke Theobald 

Luke spent his propaedeutic year at the English College in Valladolid, Spain. Now he is in his first year of formation at the Venerable English College in Rome. In the video, Luke speaks about:

  • His first impressions of Valladolid,

  • Challenges of living and studying in Spain,

  • How he ​recognised that God was calling him to ​the diocesan priesthood,

  • The application process and what it involved.

Tenny Antony

In his second year of formation at St. Mary's College, Oscott, Tenny speaks about:

  • What attracted him to the life and work of the diocesan priesthood,

  • The worries or concerns he had when discerning priesthood,

  • Helpful suggestions for current discerners. 

Jonathan Henry

In his second year of formation at the Venerable English College (VEC) in Rome, Jonathan speaks about:

  • His first impression of the VEC,

  • His experience of the first few weeks at the Roman seminary,

  • The different aspects of formation that have helped with his journey to priesthood so far.

Jithin Titto

Jithin, in his second year of formation at St. Mary's College, Oscott speaks about:

  • Those who inspired him to enter seminary life.

Gerard Bowen

In his third year of seminary at St. Mary's College, Oscott, Gerry speaks about:

David Bench

Toby Duckworth

Toby is in formation at the Venerable English College in Rome. He was ordained a transitional deacon in August 2021. He speaks about:

  • The formation he has received at the VEC,

  • How he ​recognised that God was calling him to ​the diocesan priesthood,

  •  The application process and what it involved.
